SOCIAL LIFE AT PLANICA

When Slovenians left the beloved homeland and settled in Australia the families were formed first. The Slovenians educated children in good Australian citizens but also being proud of their Slovenian heritage. The Slovenians wished and needed to be with other Slovenians – for not being lonely.

They started to gather and wished for a place to call their second home, where they could all speak Slovenian language, respected the culture, developed friendships and follow the customs and tradition of the old country. All that in the foreign places, in a world with a foreign language, but tolerance for being different and have different culture and customs.
A group of people with the same aims and respect for the Slovenian identity stopped at the SE part of Melbourne and established the club Planica.
Established were also sporting groups, youth group, Slovenian school, library, folk dancing groups, and drama groups and have gathered socially at the dances, where there was no end of social activities and merrymaking.
