SLOVENIAN DAM ACTIVIST ANKA MAKOVEC

Mia Nease and Anita Ondine want to share the news that our dear mother, Katrina “Anka” Makovec, passed away peacefully in her home in Devonport Tasmania, on 16 February, 2017, aged 78 after a brief battle with cancer.

Those who knew Anka will agree she was a one-of-a-kind gem. Her optimism, humour and warm personality, made a lasting impression on close friends and new acquaintances alike. The spark in her eye and flash of her smile were always quick to light up a room.
Her decades-long commitment to activism stands as a lasting legacy to a woman who will be remembered by many as an inspiration and an enduring example of the triumph of hope over fear and positivity over adversity.
Anka was survived by her daughters Mia and Anita, and her much loved grand children Camryn, Harrison, Arthur and Victoria.
Originally from Slovenia, Anka had made Tasmania her home for the past 35 years.
As an expression of support for a cause that Anka believed in passionately, and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the conservation group “Balkan Rivers” who are fighting to preserve the remaining wild rivers of Eastern Europe. www.balkanriverstour.co
