Opening November 20, 1983 by Mrs Helen Zibeli

The library holds up to 3000 books mainly in Slovenian language, some English and German books. There are as well Slovenian magazines, Slovenian newspapers printed in Australia and newsletters. The collection of video, CDs, cassettes and DVDs is rich as well.

In 2014 the library was relocated to the Koroščeva koča with great effort by Dragica Gomizel, Anita Fistrič and Danila Štolfa with other assistants. The new library was officially opened in November 2014 when Slovenian Association Melbourne celebrated Diamond Jubilee by the Charge d’ Affairs, Slovenian Embassy in Canbera by Mag. Jana Grilc. Dragica Gomizel was awarded for her 60 years of contributions to the Association’s cultural life with an Award by the Office of Slovenians Abroad in Slovenia.

 ARCHIVE

The main person behind the archive at Slovenian Association Melbourne was the late Milena Brgoč, who started collecting material and cataloguing it. She organised for the contents of the archive to go to State Library of Victoria in case the Association ceased to exit. After Milena’s death Anica Markič took over the care for the archive. Anica has attended two seminars for the archivists in Slovenia.

The material from the Archive and the Museum of the SAM is on the Victorian Museum web page, prepared and loaded by Draga Gelt, assisted for proof reading by Vivienne Katsoulotos, Anica Markič amd Manca Ogrizek.
