ERIC GELT

Born:   1971

Eric always loved sports.

He attended Holy Spirit Primary School in North Ringwood and Aquinas College in Ringwood, following the Trade school at Box Hill TAFE.

Eric was also attending the Slovenian Language School of Slovenian Association Melbourne, starting in 1976; was a member of Slovenian folk dancing group of the above club and participated at Slovenian Youth concerts in Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney, as well as cultural programs, and multicultural festivals in Melbourne.

Eric attended Slovenian language classes in Saturday School of Modern Languages at Dandenong and Box Hill High Schools.

He started playing volleyball aged 17, and enjoyed it ever since.

Indoor Volleyball:

1988    Eric started playing volleyball as a team member at local Croydon Leisure Centre He played in social competitions and tournaments.

1990    Eric started training with the Victoria State League Team, Wallabies Juniors, and started to play Beach Volleyball.

1992    Team member of Hawks, Victoria State Volleyball Team, Division 1

1993    Hawks Honours’ Team was established, Eric a team member,

1995    Active team member in tournaments and weekly competitions in Victoria and other states of Australia

1996    Horsham Tournament – Winner

Indoor Volleyball Tournaments include among the others:

Good Neighbour Tournament in Canberra:   2nd placing for Division 2 Team; 3rd placing for the Honours’ Team

Morwell Tournament:   1st placing three times; 2nd placing twice

Good placing at Bendigo, Warnambool and Adelaide Tournaments.

2001  Warnambool Tournament, playing with Eastside Hawks; Bendigo Tournament, Winner

2001 to 2004    National League AVL with Melbourne Falcons

2002                 Won National and State Leagues, State Championship Team

2003                 AVL, Second place, Volleyball Australia

Beach Volleyball:

1993    Placing in top 20 Best players in Victorian Beach Volleyball

1994    Beach Volleyball tournaments in Victoria

Sponsored by Redsand Company for three years

Played National Level in up to ten tournaments in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide

Beach Volleyball: always finishing in                    TOP TEN – 50%,      TOP FIVE – 50%.

2001    Victorian Beach League Tournament,      Top 4, 1 week Winner      Ranked No.: 6

International games:

2002    World Masters Games, Melbourne, team member of team Renegades, Winning Gold Medal for age 30 plus

2002    Russia, in town Khabarovsk, north of Vladivostok, team came 3rd

2004    Oceania Games in Tahiti, team came 5th
