DRAMA GROUP OF GEELONG
We had no name, so we were always referred to as the Drama Group from Geelong.
At the beginning of our existence we put on stage some short skits for Mother’s and Father’s Days. People were very happy and they loved our performances, therefore we decided to learn some comedies.
1997 – we performed with the comedy LJUBOSUMNOST LIPETA PETERŠILJČKA – THE JEALAUSY OF LIPE PETERŠILJ. We repeated the performance at the Slovenski Tabor (now Slovenian Festival) at Slovenian Association Melbourne.
1998 – we performed with the comedy PRI ČRNEM KOFETKU – AT THE BLACK COFFEE CAFE in Geelong and the same year at the Slovenian Religious and Cultural Centre Kew.
2000 – we performed with the comedy NAROČENI ŽENIN – THE ORDERED GROOM in Geelong, at Kew and at the Slovenian Association St. Albans.
2003 – we repeated the performance at Slovenian Association Adelaide.
2002 – we performed with ŽUPANOVA MICKA – LORD MAYOR’S DAUGHTER, a traditional Slovenian comedy, performing at Kew as well.
2009 – we performed with the comedy ČAJ ZA DVE – TEA FOR TWO
2010 we performed at Kew as well.
Some of the short skits we organised and performed:
NOVA SLUŽKINJA – THE NEW MAID
NESPORAZUM – THE MISUNDERSTANDING
PRI ZDRAVNIKU – AT THE DOCTORS
NAŠ AVTO – OUR CAR
With the skit Nova služkinja we performed at the Slovenski Tabor at Slovenian Club Jadran.
All of the above comedies were organised and directed by Lidija Čušin.
Assisting with costumes, props and stage set up:
The members and actors of our Drama group are ageing. We lost some already and some others have stopped participating.
Our last performance as the Drama Group from Geelong was at the Slovenian Religioous centre in Kew in 2010. We all have fond memories of the performance and we are reminiscing often. It was an unforgettable evening.
