CILKA ŽAGAR BEd BA

Born in Dolenjska, Slovenia in 1939. She migrated to Australia in 1963.

Education:

Teachers College in Celje.

BA at the University in Perth

BA at the University in Perth, Criminology

Cilka specialised in the indigenous people, the Australian Aborigines. When her husband decided to go bush In 1968, she followed, and began teaching Aboriginal students from Lightning Ridge and Walgett.

Her involvement with Aboriginal families and communities stemmed from her role in education.

Cilka compiled, edited and published Aboriginal narratives, collected and published their legends and some poems, as well as wrote of their culture and traditions and also prepared a dictionary of Aboriginal words.
